# Screenpipe vs Grain: local meeting notes and cloud collaboration

> Compare Screenpipe local AI meeting notes with Grain botless capture, cloud meeting storage, video clips, and team collaboration.

Screenpipe supports private meeting notes with local transcription and a local summary model. Grain offers a cloud meeting library with transcripts, AI notes, sharing, and CRM sync. Grain also supports desktop capture without a meeting bot.

## Comparison

| Criterion | Screenpipe | Grain |
| - | - | - |
| Capture | Enabled microphone, system audio, and screen sources | Bot capture or botless desktop capture |
| Processing | Local transcription and summary models available; hosted providers optional | Cloud meeting workflow |
| Storage | Local history; optional sync and exports | AWS-hosted data; recording files in encrypted S3 storage |
| Video and visual context | Permitted screen history across apps | Bot capture includes video; desktop capture provides transcripts and notes without a saved media file |
| Collaboration | Local notes or configured sharing and integrations | Shared recordings, clips, and team meeting library |
| CRM | Configured connections and tasks | HubSpot and Salesforce sync |

## Which workflow fits?

Choose Screenpipe when transcription and summaries need to run on your computer, or when an agent needs the screen context around a call. Follow [private meeting notes](/private-meeting-notes) to check your model choices and where notes are saved or sent. Local models use your computer's memory and processing power, and may produce different results from hosted models.

Grain may be more convenient when the team wants shared video clips, meeting templates, and CRM updates. Botless capture is available in both products, so evaluate processing and storage separately from whether a bot joins the call.
